Deja Vu

Justin and I are home tonight with only Silas at home. Ella and Mason have sleepovers this evening. Anytime we just have Si at home we always flash back to the "just Mason" days. Especially tonight since we are in the finished basement which is nice and cozy and reminds us of our old living room across the street.

This boy...I love this kid so much. Even as rotten as he can be...

His ball got run over in the soccer field parking lot. He was not pleased. This face says it all...
but he ended up getting a pretty snazzy neon blue and green ball to replace this one, so that made him happier!

He's been reading like a champ. It's really amazing what he's learned this year. His teacher continues to say how amazed she is with his math abilities and he's been LOVING the science they have been doing in class. He's so excited to come home and tell us all about it!

Thursday evening Ella had soccer practice and just Silas and I were home.  We hadn't been outside much because it has been pretty chilly and rainy lately. The sun came out and we decided to run down to the school for a little fun and exercise.  The sky was looking beautiful from the mix of the rainy day, sun coming out and setting.  I snapped this picture with my iPhone and I think it will get added to one of my eternal favorites of the kids.

Ella and Silas were looking at the kids' baby books last week and as I was flipping through, I saw this picture.  The fact that Mason can curl up on just 1/2 of the couch...if I could rewind, I'd go back and have a do-over from here.  All 3 little for a while longer.  Hmm, or maybe flash forward a few more months to when Silas is sleeping through the night.  That would be better!

Flash Backs!

I've been feeling like everything is a deja vu lately.  Especially with these two boys.  Sometimes I see and watch them side by side and think I'm hallucinating.

Mason - 2002 - at Kuhlwein's pumpkin patch (above)

Silas - 2011 - at the same place
I remember when we were there and seeing Silas in the blue with the orange pumpkin, reminded me so much of the picture of Mason.  Tonight when I was looking for some other pictures, I found it.  Mason is about a year older or so older (hence many more missing teeth!).
Often, when it's just me, Justin and Silas (when Ella and Mason are out with doing who knows what), Justin and I will feel like it's the pre-Ella and Silas days.  It's a funny feeling!!

Flashback - January 2003

One of my favorite things to do is look at my pictures, especially ones that I haven't looked at in a long time. So, I'm going to start doing a random Flashback to some pictures from the current month, who knows what year. Blogging will have to be my version of a scrapbook until such time as the kids are all grown and I have time to do some proper scrapping.

In January 2003 - according to my photos:

Mason playing with his Transformer from Christmas.
I immediately notice that his ability to match his clothing
has not changed much in the last 6 years.
This is in our old house which is now the Bull's house.

Justin was at his annual SW sales meetings that they had in Nashville -
all I got was a few pictures and a coffee mug.

I was also 7 months pregnant at the time (with Ella) -
but apparently felt good enough
to go deep sea diving from the looks of the background.
When Ella was due, we moved Mason out of his room
(he got to choose which room he wanted) and into
the guest room, repainted it ocean colors and put
huge Wallies of sea creatures on the walls.
Justin chats on the phone after working on Mason's room.
Little does he know that he's about to be attacked by a great white shark.

Mason was a silly guy at 7 1/2 years old. He was having a good time
being an only child for a few more months.

We do not remember days; we remember moments.
