Random updates

Not so much an update...but a funny thing happened the other day...the first one of my kids to do this...I was sitting in the kitchen and Si was on the john. He yelled to me that he was done (he can go #1 by himself but needs help with the follow up on #2). I said "okay be right there!"
Apparently I didn't get "right there" quite fast enough because the next thing I hear is a big THUD and him with a scream and crying. I run in and find him headfirst off the toilet and on the floor and (sorry) butt up in the air. No idea which thought came first - "grab him!" or "grab the camera!" The motherly instinct kicked in and hygiene came first...so I got him back on the pot...poor kid. He got right back on the horse though with no issues so apparently he's not scarred for life.

2nd update - you saw a few weeks back at tool club time that Justin had started working on our new garden area. He took advantage of the decently nice weather yesterday and here is the result!

We've got a garden area that we can keep the rabbits out of (but probably not the kids). We are going to plant tomatoes, cucumbers, radishes (so we can make our radish butter :) snap peas, possibly sweet corn, the kids want more sunflowers, peppers (all the fixings for good salsa!).
Have I mentioned that I love my handy-manny-man?!

Another update (#3) I said that I'd share...Indian Lake...the girls (me, Beth, Jen, Jodi, Jill, Becky, Brenda and Heather - recipe for trouble?) all went for a girls' get-a-way recently - Thanks to Jill and her family's willingness to let us trash the place! It was a fantastic weekend. We had a great time, the weather was perfect. Some of us sat by the lake and built a bonfire. It was divine.

While the masking tape served us well that evening, I'm on the lookout for a great set of wine charms as a thank you gift! :-)

More updates to come....

Measure of a Good Day

Silas now likes to pee standing up. We've had a few issues with this...mainly bad aim. Today he was very pleased with himself - and exclaimed:
"hey, hey - look! I didn't pee back there (pointing to the back of the toilet seat) or on my fingers!"

We're Headed Towards...

...one less hiney for me to wipe around here. With any luck, someday I'll be responsible for just my own. Silas has been dabbling in the potty training arena for a few months now but I think Dr. M had a talking-to with him when he went for his 3 year check-up on Tuesday. He seems to be taking it much more seriously since then, even asking me where his big-boy underwear was and wanting to wear it during the day.

Today was the first day I let him wear the underwear around and he did great. He told Kelly when he had to potty, and then when he got home he let us know too (and he's much lazier about it at home). Who knows, maybe he was inspired by a new President being in office. Whatever it was, I'm keeping my fingers crossed that this is IT!

Si is now 33.5 lbs (~45 percentile) and 37.5 inches tall (~60 percentile) - I know he's gone through a growth spurt in the last couple months - my back aches when I try to lug him around.

Surprisingly, Dr. M did NOT confront Si on his binky usage...so we'll see what happens on that front - one battle at a time...

Oh the Weather Outside is Frightful

and I'm too cheap to turn the fireplace on!!!
the kids were freezing after playing outside and I turned it on for about 10 seconds...

Justin is at a work meeting (well was when I started this post) - and I decided to take a few minutes to catch up on blogging. We had 5 things we were supposed to go to tonight. A conference for Mason (but he did not give me the right info so we missed it,) the zoo lights opening, Justin had another work meeting that he missed and the calling hours for Doug. In case you are not a BTeam blog reader - check out what the moms in her neighborhood made the family:

These are bears made out of Doug's shirts - how incredibly cool is that? One for Sheri and each of the kids. A true treasure.

We got some wacky, crazy, snowy weather again this evening. Ella and Si went out and played in it a bit while I made dinner. Si gave me a bit of a disgusting fright when he walked in saying "blah, guck, blah" and I saw snow and brown goop hanging from his mouth - I'm truly hoping it was just mud.
Ella lost another tooth recently - the tooth fairy was a little late getting to her but we told her Miss T. Fairy does not work on the weekends...

Dinner tonight was pizza and I cut up carrots, radishes and celery. Silas absolutely CHOWS on celery - the kid will say about 20 times "more cel-ry, more cel-ry" and Ella loves radishes and carrots. I cut up REAL carrots, not those watery baby ones - I always forget how much more flavorful real carrots are.

Speaking of dinner, the other night we were all eating dinner and Si had some broccoli on his nose. Justin picked it off the end of his nose and put it on his plate. Silas looked at him (much like the face in the picture below but without red eyes) and said
"why you put my boogie on your plate??"

He's been saying the funniest things lately but most would be Too Much Information for most. Though I will need to blog them eventually so I don't forget them.
He is also doing a very good job with the potty training.

Ella had her Parent-Teacher conference this week. She is going a bang-up job in Kindergarten. of course her teacher LoVeS her..."always as sweet as can be" - I'm going to video the head-spinning-spewing-green-goop thing that she does when she doesn't get her way - to show her teacher...

ALL ABOARD!!

We have had a couple big days around here! Si decided on Tuesday that he'd start going potty on the potty (he's gone some at Kelly's but not at home).
He went Tuesday night and twice on Wednesday morning. Today he went several times at home AND at Kelly's!

Yesterday, since he'd done such a good job, we went to Target and got a prize from the $1 bin. He picked a train. What's funny is that because he got this for going potty, he calls it his POTTY TRAIN - ha!

The down side to this...I find him BUTT NAKED on my new area rug...

Hopefully this is the beginning of the end of DIAPERS!!
